Lowering springs give your car improved dynamic handling, better cornering and a dynamic appearance. This means better appearance by improving the stance of your Lexus, offers maximum driving comfort in normal operation yet provides sporty, progressive tunes suspension at the operating limits. The lower center of gravity produced by suspension kits provides greater handling and increases driving fun.
Suspension springs are must for any vehicle to ensure a smooth ride and to assist control of the vehicle. Suspension springs absorb bumps in the road and the shocks and struts stop the springs from bouncing.
When people think of automobile performance, they normally think of horsepower and acceleration. But all of the power generated by an engine is useless if the driver can't control the car which is where suspension springs comes in. The suspension springs of a car is actually part of the chassis, which comprises all of the important systems located beneath the car's body.
There are different types of springs that are used in an automobiles suspension such as coil springs, leaf springs, torsion bars and air springs.
- Coil springs are the most common type of suspension springs and are in essence a heavy-duty torsion bar coiled around an axis. Coil springs compress and expand to absorb the motion of the wheels.
- Torsion bar suspension use the twisting properties of a steel bar to provide coil-spring-like performance. This is how they work: One end of a bar is anchored to the vehicle frame. The other end is attached to a wishbone, which acts like a lever that moves perpendicular to the torsion bar. When the wheel hits a bump, vertical motion is transferred to the wishbone and then, through the levering action, to the torsion bar. The torsion bar suspension then twists along its axis to provide the spring force.
- Leaf spring suspension consists of several layers of metal bound together to act as a single unit. Leaf springs were first used for suspension on horse-drawn carriages and were found on most American automobiles until 1985.
- Air spring suspension consist of a cylindrical chamber of air positioned between the wheel and the car's body, use the compressive qualities of air to absorb wheel vibrations.
